What is an RSS News Feed?

An RSS news feed is a specially formed web page (XML) that formats news items in such a way that many kinds email software, web browsers, and special software called "feed aggregators" can fetch and display in readable format.

The software will go at certain intervals (eg. once a day) to see if there are any new news items to display. Using RSS feeds, you do not have to go to your favourite websites each day to see if there is anything new. Instead the you can just open your email software or feed aggregator and see if any new headlines have arrived.
