GMP Capital Trust is showing brokerages can be income trusts after all, at least in a bull market. "So far, so good," said Horst Hueniken, an analyst at Westwind Partners.

"The company has been benefiting from strong markets, principally oil and gas and mining. And they've benefited from very good execution on both the institutional and investment banking side in that they're gaining market share."
